Tencent is launching its 2026 Greater Bay Area (GBA) Program and seeking a Legal Counsel to support its overseas advertising platforms and public welfare initiatives. As an important member of Tencent's overseas legal team, you will have an exciting opportunity to support international business, products, and platforms across advertising, open-source software, and AI in multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on the legal and compliance aspects of overseas products and platform operations, including product features, platform governance, user onboarding, user-facing disclosures, AI-related features, and cross-border launches
  • Build and improve the compliance framework for the overseas business, including policies, standard operating procedures, risk assessments, approval workflows, training, and knowledge management.
  • Track and analyze legal and regulatory developments in key overseas markets, including AI, platform governance, data protection, advertising, and consumer protection, and support compliance assessments for product features, business initiatives, and overseas launches.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including technology service agreements, procurement agreements, as well as other commercial contracts.
  • Conduct legal assessments and market entry research covering advertising and marketing regulation, consumer protection, privacy and data protection, content moderation, and sector-specific requirements.
  • Provide strategic, end-to-end legal and compliance support for the global expansion and implementation of overseas public welfare initiatives, including contract review, legal risk assessment, governance support and other legal work across the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with external counsel and other Tencent attorneys based around the world, including in Singapore, the EU, the US and other relevant jurisdictions, to provide practical compliance and regulatory analysis for international business initiatives.
  • Identify legal and regulatory risks early, and develop practical, scalable solutions for business, product, and platform teams.
Who We Look For

Key expectations and criteria:

  • Education: Exceptional academic credentials, including an advanced law degree from a prestigious, internationally recognized law school. Admission to practice in a major overseas jurisdiction is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) gained at leading law firms or multinational corporations. Experience in advertising, media, platform businesses, or regulatory compliance is a strong plus
  • Compliance Systems Experience: Hands-on experience in building or enhancing compliance frameworks, including policies, template documentation, approval workflows, training programs, and knowledge management tools, with the ability to drive operational efficiency in line with both international standards and local regulatory requirements.
  • Business Judgment: Sound business acumen with the ability to deliver practical, commercially pragmatic, and comprehensive legal advice in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trusted, effective relationships with business stakeholders across different functions and levels.
  • Independence & Project Management: Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize competing demands, and manage end-to-end project processes—from initial legal assessment and contract negotiation through to implementation and post-launch risk management.
  • Resilience & Adaptability: Comfortable operating under pressure in a fast-paced, constantly evolving technology environment, with the ability to handle complex, time-sensitive, and multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Learning Agility: Quick learner with a genuine interest in the latest developments in overseas regulation, platform compliance, and emerging technologies.
  • Language: Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English (written and spoken) as working languages.
