At Spotify, we’ve connected millions of people to their favorite songs and created a service that people use to discover and enjoy the music and podcasts they love. We’ve launched in 184 markets…and counting! We strive to revolutionize the way people consume music and podcasts, and we’ll need some very talented people to help us achieve our mission.
We’re hiring a Legal Counsel to join the Markets and Regulatory Legal team. This role will help support our commercial businesses, with a focus on India and the APAC region, but will help to support global projects as well. This role can be based in Mumbai, India.
The Markets and Regulatory Legal Team supports a broad range of teams and functions within the company, including our Subscriptions, Ad Sales, Marketing, and R&D organizations. As a lawyer for Spotify, you will partner with and provide legal guidance to our business teams across a wide range of stakeholders based in the APAC region, but also on a global basis as needed. Our products and agreements are innovative, progressive, and always evolving so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise the teams on legal issues using a creative and pragmatic approach.
What You'll Do
- Lead regulatory and compliance work for India and APAC, including advising on sector-specific regulations, monitoring regulatory developments, helping Spotify anticipate and manage legal change in the market.
- Handle legal and government interactions, including responding to regulatory inquiries, government requests, and enforcement actions, and supporting the Government Affairs team where necessary.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support product launches and market initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable laws in India and across APAC.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including advertising, marketing, partnerships and other commercial deals that support Spotify’s business in India and APAC.
- Improve our standard form agreements and legal processes that help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach.
- Work closely with our business teams to summarize and communicate legal concepts clearly and optimally and help them synthesize legal frameworks in developing their business strategies. This includes advising teams on legal risks, regulatory challenges and internal governance.
- Collaborate with global legal and business teams to ensure alignment, share knowledge, and provide support on global projects and initiatives
Who You Are
- Fully qualified lawyer, with a combined 5 to 7+ years of experience working in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Experience in providing legal advice in jurisdictions across the APAC region, preferably including India.
- Experience advising on regulatory, consumer protection, compliance, intellectual property, privacy, and other legal areas impacting online services.
- Strong track record of working with a wide range of commercial agreements and providing practical and concrete advice to business partners.
Where You'll Be
- This role is based in Mumbai
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home
