What we do  

Back-end focused (IC roles) 

Our Software Engineers are end-to-end owners who have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of designing, building, and delivering data-focused products for our stakeholders. 

At The Trade Desk, we believe in building the back-end infrastructure of our platform with a focus on quality at scale. This means whether we are building parts of our client-facing applications, internal custom solutions for our own team members, or model pipelines for bidding optimizations, we are making sure that we have infrastructure, development, and tools to do it right and efficiently.  

Our system performs all day, every day serving global traffic. We build a distributed system in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing a broad range of technologies. Our back-end developers work on finding solutions to algorithmic, optimization and scale challenges in everything we do.  

Front-end focused  (IC roles) 

Our Software Engineers are end-to-end owners who have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of designing, building, and delivering data-focused products for our stakeholders.

Our system performs all day, every day, serving global traffic. We deliver features to improve the clients' abilities to make real-time decisions and troubleshoot campaigns with simple-to-use interfaces and high-performance data interactions. We work in a highly collaborative environment with user experience and product management organizations to ensure consistent, modern designs as well as the right balance of requirements to improve the users' day-to-day lives. Our front-end developers work up and down the stack (client to server) to deliver these world-class experiences. 

Non-specific focus  (IC and Agile Lead roles)

Our system performs all day, every day serving global traffic. It’s important we focus on quality at scale in an agile environment that is based on collaboration, ownership, and trust. Our software engineering teams fully own their charter to work on long term roadmaps while enhancing existing features or tools and continuously gaining efficiency.

This means you will have the opportunity, based on your interests and background, to manage teams that are working on large-scale distributed systems coordinating thousands of servers in cloud and physical data centers around the world, petabyte-scale data challenges, machine learning, advanced visualizations, andinteractive user interfaces– to name a few. Teams own their charter, end-to-end, and work on long term roadmaps while enhancing existing features or tools and continuously gaining efficiency. 

Our system performs all day, every day serving global traffic. It’s important we focus on quality at scale in an agile environment that is based on collaboration, ownership, and trust. Our engineering managers are there to build trust with our talented engineers, to understand their strengths and weaknesses and to ensure they are motivated and productive, all the while having fun and enjoying every day.

    • Manager: 11+ (equivalent to Staff) with 2+ people management (direct reports) experience
    • Sr Manager: 13+ (equivalent to Staff) with 2+ people management (direct reports) experience and 1+ leading multiple teams  
  • You have a Bachelor’s/Master’s level degree in a computer-science or relevant engineering related field or equivalent experience. Not everyone has the same level of access to opportunities.
