Job Description

Fugro currently has an opportunity for a Lead - Drilling Operations to join the Marine Site Characterization Operations Team based in Singapore.

As a Lead of the Fugro Singapore’s expanding Geotechnical Drilling pool and equipment, you will assist to train up the drillers. Ensure that they acquire quality geo-data and samples and are well versed with the operations of various specialized deployment equipment, downhole tools, and seabed data acquisition systems (as required) in adherence to industry wide contract and technical specifications, Company procedures and standards.

Your time will be spent onshore and offshore in the field, generally in the Asia Pacific Region, but you will have the opportunity to travel globally.

Who you’ll be working with:

You will be working under the direction of the Operations Manager (FSM) – Marine Assets & Geotechnics with a Matrix reporting to Global MSC Geotech Drilling Director (FGSL) and will work alongside other members of the Onshore / Offshore team.

About the Role:

  • Manage and lead the Kahuna competency framework (assessments) for all drilling personnel.

  • Carry out competency assessments for trainee drillers, drillers. Lead and support the Drilling Supervisor to discuss/advise the stakeholders on operational and HSE issues related to the Drilling equipment & operations.

  • Assist Planning lead on planning and drive the recruitment for drilling personnel.

  • Review and implement WI’s for drilling equipment at APAC level and ensure the same are available on APAC BMS. Monitor ongoing geotechnical operations, and ensure the operations are executed in accordance with the procedures and guidelines and corporate standards.

  • Optimize and improve the execution of Drilling Data, Bore Hole Plans & operations.

  • Stand as SME for APAC region for Drilling equipment. Propose and lead improvements. Be a focal point with FGSL on personnel and equipment upgrade / maintenance issues.

  • Support the Equipment Resource Manager with the evaluation and inspection of geotechnical drilling equipment and its associated consumables.

  • Work closely with Lead – CPT Operations on improvements to drilling systems which may have an influence on the drilling Operations.

  • Work with the mobilization manager / vessel operations superintendent to coordinate complex port calls involving Geotech equipment.

  • Help enhance the career development of the personnel in the department by providing guidance and support. This includes ensuring regular appraisals by DS for drilling personnel prior to their signing off.

  • Liaise with necessary stakeholders and be responsible for the preparation, set up, testing and maintenance of the geotechnical drilling tools, equipment and systems used to acquire geotechnical data and samples offshore.

  • Responsible for the safe operation of all geotechnical drilling data and sample acquisition equipment.

  • Responsible for providing remote troubleshooting advice and to deliver solutions that keeps the equipment performing to the required level.

  • Ability to work safely and efficiently, think ahead to the next procedure and plan accordingly, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

  • Participate in incident investigation and stand as action implementor for incidents involving drilling equipment.

  • Assist the Equipment Resource Manager to manage equipment & consumables inventory and resupply for drilling equipment for vessels operating in APAC.

  • Must be positive, confident, and keen to develop a reputation as a team player in the role, assisting both the geotechnical sampling and drilling teams as required.

About You:

  • Minimum 10 years’ Experience of offshore Geotechnical Drilling and seabed data acquisition and sampling systems operating including but not limited to sound knowledge of Fugro WISON, Fugro SEACALF, APVDB WISON, APVDB ROSON, equivalent Geomil and Datem Systems.

  • Experienced and competent when using IT Systems and Software.

  • Proficient communication skills in both written and spoken English.

  • An optimistic, team orientated disposition.

  • Good level of physical fitness to pass the stringent offshore medical requirements.

  • Flexible to travel internationally and go offshore as and when required.
