The Jr. Master Planner will assist project teams with design modifications, site research, documentation preparation, and collaboration on urban design tasks while supporting multi-disciplinary communication and project coordination.
Overview:
Supports project teams using a wide range of developing professional skills. Performs basic design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge while working under general supervision. Eager to learn, highly organized and willing to contribute creatively to the team.
Responsibilities :
- Modifies or creates design documents, applying urban design and planning principles to spatial frameworks at a variety of scales
- Conducts preliminary site research, analysis, and design cues for project teams
- Produces scale comparison & precedent studies
- Performs routine urban design and planning assignments and may have some design responsibility collaborating with other team members as designated
- Assignments may include higher-level work for training/development purposes
- May attend on-site visits, field reviews and client and/or project meetings as appropriate
- Assists in structuring typical master planning documents/reports and able to input with discipline-specific contents
- Assist in preparing proposals, presentations, schedules and processing of implementation documentation and samples
- Assists in architectural or landscape projects as needed and as appropriate to their background
- May participate in communication with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to incorporate information into project requirements
- Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, design and technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
- Travel may be required
Qualifications:
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related field; Graduate experience preferred
- Typically with 0-3+ years of experience
- Urban design/planning related accreditation preferred, such as LEED ND or Ecodistricts AP, or within one year of hire
- Knowledge of architectural software such as AutoCAD, , Rhino, SketchUp, and other 3D modeling preferred
- Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) software such as ArcGIS or QGIS highly preferred
- Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign graphic software highly preferred
- Knowledge of computational design (Grasshopper) and relevant plugins preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
- Knowledge of urban design theories and placemaking principles
- Knowledge of the principles, methodology and practices of research and mapping data
- Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
- Knowledge of zoning codes and land use planning
- Knowledge of written and graphic AI tools preferred
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing
- Ability to problem solve and collaborate on innovative solutions
- Ability to work in team environment
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
