JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
This internship is designed for Music Business students eager to explore how music rights are turned into royalties. At Rocketfuel Entertainment, we operate both as a label and a publisher in-house, offering a rare opportunity to understand the full cycle of music copyright, registration, and royalty flow from both sides.
You will support the Music Business team in registering works, tracking usage, and assisting with royalty claiming and analysis across local collective management organizations (CMOs). This is a hands-on, rights-focused internship that offers real-world exposure to how music is monetized, licensed, and protected in Malaysia.
What you will do:
1. Copyright Registration
- Assist in registering musical works (publishing) and sound recordings (label) with relevant CMOs, including MACP and PPM
- Track registration progress and resolve any discrepancies or rejected submissions
- Ensure all copyright, metadata, and ownership information is accurately maintained in internal trackers
2. Royalty Claiming & Rights Tracking
- Support the claiming of uncollected royalties across Rocketfuel’s publishing and label catalogue
- Monitor potential unregistered works or unmatched usage reports
- Assist in resolving rights conflicts or data issues with CMOs and third parties
3. Music Business Operations
- Maintain and update internal logs for rights ownership, licensing status, and contract milestones
- Support the documentation of Rocketfuel’s growing music catalogue across all works
- Help retrieve and verify missing documentation, especially for older legacy catalogues
What You’ll Learn:
- How to register, track, and claim royalties through MACP and PPM
- The differences between master and publishing rights, and how each is monetized
- The real-world application of music business principles inside a dual-role company handling both label and publishing operations
Who you are:
- Final-year student or recent graduate in Music Business or a related field
- Passionate about music rights, royalties, and the operational side of the industry
- Highly organised, accurate, and methodical with documentation and follow-ups
- Proficient in Excel, Google Sheets, and digital documentation systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with MACP and PPM processes
- Understanding of publishing vs. master rights and how royalty splits work
