The Head of Equity Research will lead the Singapore sell-side equity research franchise within the Global Markets division, overseeing a high-performing team that produces differentiated, value-adding research for institutional and corporate clients.
This leadership role combines strategic oversight, commercial execution, and client engagement, with a mandate to grow research-driven revenues, deepen institutional relationships, and enhance the firm’s profile as a trusted market insights provider across Asia, especially Greater China and ASEAN, markets.
The ideal candidate brings deep regional market expertise, proven leadership experience, and a track record of translating research quality into monetizable client engagement and market share gains.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership and Equity Research Direction
- Define and execute the strategic direction for the bank’s equity research platform in Singapore and Asia, ensuring alignment with Global Markets priorities.
- Oversee the full range of equity research coverage – company, sector, and thematic strategy – to ensure output is timely, differentiated, and commercially impactful.
- Identify and prioritize high-value research themes and sectors aligned with institutional client demand and trading flow opportunities.
- Foster collaboration across sector teams to produce cross-cutting thematic reports that reinforce the bank’s thought leadership positioning.
2. Institutional Client Engagement and Monetization
- Partner closely with Institutional Sales and ECM teams to maximize research monetization through targeted client engagement, bespoke analysis, and coordinated coverage.
- Drive initiatives to expand client share of wallet, leveraging research as a core differentiator for trading and capital markets mandates.
- Lead client meetings, investor roadshows, and bespoke briefings for top-tier institutional clients, sovereign funds, and hedge funds.
- Establish and monitor research contribution metrics linked to client engagement to track commercial impact.
- Ensure the research franchise remains visible and relevant through timely, actionable, and data-driven insights distributed via digital platforms and media.
3. Team Management and Talent Development
- Lead and inspire a team of equity analysts, ensuring consistent delivery of top-tier research output.
- Drive a performance and accountability culture, aligning individual goals with client monetization and franchise growth metrics.
- Mentor analysts on analytical depth, writing clarity, presentation delivery, and commercial awareness.
- Identify and nurture next-generation talent, ensuring a strong research bench with multi-sectoral expertise and regional perspective.
- Uphold governance, compliance, and research independence standards consistent with MAS and firm-wide policies.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with different stakeholders to integrate research into client engagement strategies and deal origination efforts.
- Serve as the research ambassador in client meetings, conferences, and strategic initiatives, enhancing the firm’s competitive positioning.
- Collaborate with digital strategy and marketing teams to enhance research distribution, visibility, and analytics.
- Contribute to internal market briefings, investment committees, and house views that influence overall market strategy.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience in sell-side equity research, strategy, or related markets functions, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven success in leading research teams and driving client monetization through research differentiation.
- Deep understanding of Asia, especially Greater China and ASEAN equities and sectoral investment themes.
- Established relationships with institutional investors and buy-side clients across the region.
- Strong familiarity with research compliance frameworks (MAS, MiFID II, global best practices).
- Experience leveraging data analytics, ESG factors, and digital research tools to enhance client impact.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to represent the franchise at senior client and media levels.
