How you will create an impact
As a Leader, you are respected for your deep technical expertise and/or ability to oversee programs and processes. You balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, and judgment, along with a risk mindset. Ultimately, you take ownership for key outcomes.
This is a key leadership role in our Business Package team in which you will take ownership for achieving goals and outcomes. You will be tasked with managing colleagues and overseeing a range of programs and processes, in addition to handling complex underwriting.
You will thrive by successfully balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, judgement and a risk mind-set. It will be essential to build effective relationships with brokers and to deliver a high standard of customer service as an example for the team to follow.
People management is a key aspect of the role – you will promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity and learning, while mentoring and developing a team of Portfolio Underwriters through effective leadership, role modelling and training programs. You will aim to facilitate personal growth and career development in support of succession planning.
You will also play a key role in new business development, including attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market.
Lead Sales, Product Development, Planning and co-ordinate market activities with distribution channels.
You will achieve individual and team sales target and must be able to create and drive business strategies for the department and ensure that strategies are monitored and executed.
You will lead initiatives to provide product and sales training for all channels to ensure that they understand Package risk preferred business and identify areas for Package growth.
Grow alternative channel distribution for Package; develop and champion relationships with affinity partners, banks and associations.
You will provide underwriting support and local market risk knowledge to the cluster underwriting team.
Assistance during peak periods to the cluster underwriting team to ensure underwriting SLAs are met.
Work with Cluster PCM to ensure profitable strategy is in place.
Work with cluster UW manager to ensure local UW factors are incorporated in guidelines and approach.
Be fully engaged with cluster portfolio management reviews to ensure local understanding and input into trend analysis produces decisions that optimize our performance to achieve RAP and growth.
Effectively communicate underwriting actions to stakeholders in order both achieve the aims of such plans and maintain profitable growth in line with budget for the country via all channels.
Co-ordinate regional and local communication between local departments leaders and senior management. Assist the Head of SME APAC to manage SME business across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hongkong (SMTH).
Manage SME underwriting referrals exceeding local underwriting authority across SMTH.
Lead underwriting efficiency improvement projects across SMTH and work with IT to enhance underwriting systems from time to time.
Work on SME CAT, AAL programs across SMTH.
Lead SME facilities across SMTH.
What you’ll need to succeed
Proven underwriting experience in Business Package/Property/Casualty products and a successful record of selling products to clients across various distribution channels.
Possess recognized insurance qualification and/or relevant tertiary degree from a recognized institution in business, economics, insurance or marketing.
Proven people management skills and a record of developing more junior colleagues.
The ability to analyze financial statements.
Financial skills (P&L Budget, etc.) and proven marketing skills.
Strong communication, networking and relationship building skills.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Customer and sales orientated behaviors: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.
