Overview
The Executive Vice President, General Counsel, APEMEA is responsible for leading the legal strategy for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. The role provides legal counsel to the President, APEMEA.
This person will be responsible for managing, coaching and exhibiting strong leadership ability in order to develop and drive a high performing, results driven team. The position reports to the General Counsel.
Role
• Advisor to the President of the APEMEA and the broader APEMEA leadership team on legal matters
• Provide counsel on various strategic, commercial and legal issues which have a significant impact on Mastercard's APEMEA operations, strategies and financial performance
• Execute legal matters for the business, mitigate risk, and protect Mastercard interests
• Develop legal strategies that align to the APEMEA business to enable value creation and advise on execution of the business strategy in the regions
• Lead, support and develop a high performing team of existing regional resources legal generalists and specialists
• Maintain strong partnerships with internal regulatory, privacy, compliance, policy and franchise experts
• Engage in proper corporate interactions with customers, advocacy organizations and policymakers
• Demonstrate clear insight into the corporate strategy to enable business and engage in critical discussions with internal and external stakeholders
• Foster and build strong relationships with business stakeholders and law department colleagues to promote inclusive and cross-functional collaboration
• A thought leader within Mastercard
All About You
• Significant legal experience at a reputable law firm or in-house experience preferred
• Strong leadership capabilities
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills are critical
• Proven expertise in a wide range of corporate matters and including highly complex transactions
• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships
• Exhibit problem solving, ability to prioritize, creative thinking, teamwork and flexibility in a fast-paced environment
• JD required
