The Software Development Engineer I (SDE I) is an early-career engineer who builds, tests, and ships production software as part of OBZ delivery teams.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the SDE I contributes to features, services, and tooling that support enterprise AI systems deployed in regulated environments.
This role is focused on developing strong engineering fundamentals, writing clean and well-tested code, and learning to deliver reliably within AWS-based production environments.
At OBZ, all engineers are expected to use AI tools effectively in their daily work. AI assistants and workflow automation tools are expected to improve engineering productivity, testing, debugging, documentation, and delivery execution.
What You Will Do
- Implement well-scoped features, services, and bug fixes under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Write clean, readable, well-tested code following OBZ engineering standards and code review practices.
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs (e.g. Python, FastAPI) and contribute to front-end interfaces where required.
- Develop and run unit and integration tests, and help maintain automated testing workflows.
- Deploy and operate workloads on AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, and CloudWatch under supervision.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies, incorporating feedback quickly.
- Debug and resolve defects across development, staging, and production environments.
- Document code, configurations, and runbooks to support maintainability.
- Use AI coding assistants and automation tools to improve productivity and code quality.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
- 0 to 2 years of experience in software engineering, or a strong portfolio of academic, internship, or open-source work.
- Solid programming fundamentals in at least one language such as Python, Java, TypeScript, or Go.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, APIs, databases, and version control (Git).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and a basic understanding of CI/CD and testing.
- Eagerness to learn, strong problem-solving instincts, and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate within a team.

- Internship or project experience shipping software used by real users.
- Exposure to AWS, containers, or AI/LLM application development.
- You actively use AI tools to accelerate learning and improve code quality.
- Contributions to open-source or personal engineering projects.
Travel and Location
OBZ clients are based across Southeast Asia, ANZ, and Japan. Travel and onsite engagement requirements may vary depending on project needs. Relocation support may be considered based on business requirements.

Language
Fluency in spoken and written English is required across all markets. Strong communication skills are important for collaboration across engineering teams, delivery teams, and enterprise stakeholders.
Local language proficiency is considered an advantage, particularly in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Certifications
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified Developer Associate certifications are valued.
