Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic experts. A day in the Life:

This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety programs at the assigned laboratory location(s) and for facilitating a collaborative approach to implementing such programs with site management.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge about local applicable EHS-related regulatory requirements.
  • Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner and provides recommendations for compliance.
  • Proactively checks and ensure that relevant EHS-related licenses & permit are maintained.
  • Provide recommendations and, where applicable, takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved.
  • Lead the inspection by authorities.
  • Practices and enforces good safety practices. 
  • Establish and implement Safe Work Procedures & Policies.
  • Works with relevant process owners to perform risk assessments and work together to implement control measures.
  • Conducts regular walk-downs of the assigned facilities.
  • Facilitating relevant process owners for incident investigations, root cause analysis, implementation of corrective actions.
  • Oversees all ergonomic related issues. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Conducts or assists in employee health hazard exposure monitoring. (E.g. chemical exposure, noise exposure, light monitoring, etc.)
  • Works with relevant process owners to ensure proper disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility.
  • Organize trainings for employees and management on EHS topics
  • Report to corporate about EHS data
  • Support audits from accreditation bodies (CAP), sponsors and corporate, in areas of EHS and BCP.
  • Facilitate the conducting of monthly meeting for the biosafety.
  • Work with SEAT Leader to maintain SEAP and conduct periodic tabletop exercises.

Education and Experience:

  • Possess the Management of Hazardous Substances Course certificate.
  • Registered Workplace Safety & Health Officer, Biosafety Coordinator & Fire Safety Manager is preferred.
  • Proficient in English and Mandarin. As this role is expected to work closely with our EHS Specialist who is based in China.
  • 5-10 years of relevant EHS work experience, preferably in a lab setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable local environmental, safety and health legislation.
  • Knowledge of air monitoring strategies.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of worker’s compensation requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer skills: proficient with Microsoft Outlook
