Main purpose of the role
MUFG has created a Global Blended Finance (GBF) team, headquartered in London but operating globally, to deliver market-leading structured financing solutions for public and private-sector borrowers in developing and emerging economies.
As part of the global roll-out of the GBF product, MUFG is establishing a brand-new role based in Singapore: Head of Global Blended Finance Origination APAC.
GBF financing solutions combine structured credit financing tools with risk mitigation / credit enhancement instruments to address client requirements for longer-duration or subordinated liquidity in jurisdictions where traditional corporate or project finance products are more difficult to source.
Projects and activities financed through GBF solutions often have economic development or resiliency impact characteristics, lending themselves to partnering with bilateral or multilateral public entities, ranging from global MDB and vertical climate funds to export credit agencies.
A core orientation of the GBF business is to design transactions to prioritise distribution to investors rather than holding balance sheet positions.
As a member of the Global Blended Finance team, and in partnership with the Head of GBF Structuring APAC, the overarching KPI is to develop the GBF product vertical in the APAC region.
The role will report locally to the Head of GCIB APAC and functionally to the GCIB Head of Blended Finance in London.
Key responsibilities of the role
Identify and pursue new business opportunities that are in alignment with the global GBF strategy, executing transactions jointly with the Head of GBF Structuring APAC, also based in Singapore.
Stay closely engaged with and abreast of GBF technical advances and transaction/product development in other regions, to bring this learning to APAC.
Maintain, deepen and expand GBF product-focused relationships with relevant regional MDB, DFI and other risk mitigation instrument providers.
Identify specialised investors and liquidity providers, with the GBF product in mind, that may not be already identified by MUFG Sales and Syndicate.
Monitor and risk-manage any post-execution positions in accord with MUFG APAC balance sheet governance and portfolio requirements.
Liaise closely with all relationship management, balance sheet product (ECA Finance, Project Finance) and Sustainability Finance colleagues.
Provide frequent and detailed updates and strategy presentations to APAC management.
Support Tokyo Planning colleagues that are also involved in select regional Blended Finance activities.
Job requirements:
At least 12 years of experience in structured finance, capital markets, project finance, corporate finance, debt advisory or export credit finance, with demonstrated ability to originate transactions in complex or unstructured environments.
At least 5 years of experience structuring or executing transactions involving MDB,DFI, and ECA risk mitigation instruments, including guarantees, political risk insurance, unfunded risk participations and blended capital solutions
Proven entrepreneurial track record of building new product pipelines or platforms, including originating and executing USD 500m+ in cumulative transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
Established working relationships with sovereign and sub-sovereign public sector entities across the APAC region, particularly within middle-income and lower middle-income jurisdictions.
Experience working with regional EPC contractors and infrastructure sponsors.
Strong structuring capability across multi-tranche debt solutions, including syndicated loans, capital markets instruments, structured credit, or export credit-backed facilities
Experience operating within a large global financial institution where continuous engagement and close coordination with multiple important stakeholders is essential.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MBA, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or quantitative discipline) preferred.
