Title and Summary

Director, Acceptance

Acceptance team is a part of Mastercard’s Core Products organization in Asia Pacific. This team is responsible for managing our key acceptance products including contactless, QR, Tap on Phone, and expanding the network of merchant locations where Mastercard cards is accepted. The team also focused on optimizing the acceptance network to deliver the best cardholder experience in-store, online or in omni-channel environments.
We are looking for a Director – Acceptance for the AP region. This is an Individual Contributor role and the candidate should have a solid experience in consumer card payments, and having developed go-to-market strategies for launching / scaling new products and initiatives. An understanding of the alternative payment methods in the various markets in AP region, would be an added advantage.
Role
• The Director will be responsible for growing our acceptance footprint as well as driving acceptance optimization initiatives in AP region. This will be done through partnerships with Acquirers, Payment Facilitators and other channel partners.
• Optimizing cost of acceptance, to compete with alternative payment methods and driving preference for Mastercard. This will require a comprehensive understanding of the revenue and cost drivers for the various stakeholders in the card payments value chain (issuer, acquirer, merchant, cardholder, processors and other service providers)
• Gather market intelligence about new acceptance technologies, alternative payment methods, commercial and economic models for consumer retail payments. Provide inputs into product strategy and roadmaps
• The candidate will also focus on improving the quality of our acceptance network - extract the most value from the existing acceptance network by improving merchant lifecycle metrics and optimizing payment transaction performance. They will monitor acceptance gaps via mystery shopping, surveys and other similar activities. Work with Acquirers, Channel partners and Mastercard Customer Support teams to track and resolve acceptance quality issues
• Improve network performance by tracking and enhancing merchant metrics such as contactless enablement & contactless transaction penetration, recurring enablement and recurring penetration, tokenization enablement and penetration.
• Collaborate with the wider Acceptance team and Core Products organization, with the ultimate objective of driving the key Acceptance KPIs.
• Cross functional partnerships with other relevant product groups, customer delivery, pricing, legal / compliance & regulatory, franchise as needed
All About You
• Proven Product Management experience and go-to-market expertise, preferably in consumer card payments with oversight of multiple markets.
• Appreciation of alternative payment methods (e.g. A2A, RTP, wallets, BNPL) is an added advantage
• Strong ability to execute initiatives with partners, driving for excellence in quality and timeliness.
• Strong communications and presentation skills, including the ability to work with people across a matrix organization at all levels
• Appreciation of the diverse market nuances and regulatory environment in the AP region
• Strategic thinking, collaborative working style, ability to manage multiple stakeholders
