Reporting to the Head of Analytics and Business Enablement, Private Wealth, the Data Modeler, Private Wealth Data & Analytics will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data models, mappings, and integrated data assets that support the Sun Life Private Wealth data strategy and future growth. As a member of the Data & Analytics team, the Data Modeler plays a key role in establishing trusted, scalable, and reusable data foundations that enable reporting, analytics, AI and business decision-making.
The Data Modeler partners closely with Data Analysts, and Technology teams to understand data requirements, define data structures, document business rules, and design scalable data solutions. The role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing analytical data models, onboarding new data sources, developing source-to-target mappings, supporting data integration initiatives, and ensuring data assets are structured, governed, and readily available for analytical consumption.
What you will be doing
Partner with Data Analysts to understand business requirements, reporting needs, data definitions, and analytical use cases
Design and maintain analytical data models that support reporting, analytics, and business decision-making
Develop and maintain source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, business rules, and data dictionaries
Analyze and profile new and existing data sources to understand data structures, relationships, quality and integration requirement
Translate analytical and reporting requirements into scalable and reusable data assets
Collaborate with Data Platform and Technology teams to implement new data sources, analytical data models and integrated data solutions.
Create tables for analytics and reporting purposes
Contribute to the design of data ingestion, transformation and data delivery processes across multiple data sources.
Support data quality, metadata, lineage and governance activities
Identify opportunities to improve data structures, simplify integrations and enhance the usability of enterprise data assets
Develop expertise in key data domains, source systems and enterprise data repositories
Who you will be working with
This role is highly collaborative and requires close partnership with members of the Data & Analytics, Private Wealth function and regional teams. The successful candidate will work closely with Data Analysts to understand reporting and analytical requirements, as well as Technology and Data Platform teams responsible for implementing and supporting enterprise data solutions.
The Data Modeler will collaborate with the data platform team in Asia to ensure data assets are designed, structured, and managed in a consistent and scalable manner.
What we are looking for
5+ years of experience in data modeling, data management, data integration or related disciplines
Experience designing, building and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models
Strong understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling techniques
Advanced SQL skills with the ability to profile, analyze, validate and transform complex data sets
Experience with Python, data modeling tools, and visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI is considered an asset
Experience working with enterprise data platforms, data warehouses, and large-scale datasets
Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS) and modern data architectures
Ability to translate business and analytical requirements into scalable and reusable data structures
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills with attention to data quality and accuracy
Strong verbal and written communication skills
