Employees within a 90-minute radius of our Oak Brook, IL headquarters are required to adhere to the company in-office work guidelines of 4 days per month minimum from 10 am to 2 pm (1 of the 4 days must be a Monday or Friday).

We are seeking talented Data Engineers who can create scalable data platform solutions while collaborating with an experienced team of product development professionals. You will join a cross-functional, DevOps based, Agile team responsible for the entire product development life cycle, encompassing conception, discovery, framing, development, deployment, measurement, and continuous improvement. The Data Engineer II will report to the Director, Software Engineering in Information Technology.
Duties & Responsibilities:
By collaborating closely with fellow product development team members, data engineers play a pivotal role in driving team-level success through the demonstration of the following key attributes:

• Collaborating with Users, Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to foster ideation and deliver cutting-edge software solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, understand business logic, and deliver reliable data solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain data transformation and integration processes to support business reporting and operational needs.
• Employing Test First and Acceptance Criteria Driven approaches to continuously test and deliver high-quality software.
• Ensuring solutions meet non-functional requirements, such as security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability.
• Actively pursuing continuous professional growth by staying updated on new development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment. Engaging in educational opportunities, keeping informed through professional publications, nurturing personal and professional networks, and actively participating in relevant professional organizations.
• Through the successful execution of these responsibilities, the data engineer will make significant contributions to the overall achievements of our team and organization!
• Stay current with best practices and tools in data engineering and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience:

• 2-4 years of experience in Data Engineering or Software Product Development.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or similar/related Engineering/Science based disciplines.

Skills & Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of demonstrating:

• Talend 8 ETL Development: Design, develop, and maintain Talend jobs to load incoming files and transform data schemas based on business rules and requirements.
• Data Transformation & Validation: Apply business logic to transform and validate data from various sources, ensuring it is properly structured for reporting and downstream analysis.
• Snowflake Integration for Reporting: Extract data from Snowflake using Talend, applying necessary transformations, and generating subscriber-level and operational reports.
• SQL Expertise: Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures to manipulate, transform, and extract data for reporting and integration needs.
• Java (Talend Custom Routines): Create custom Java routines within Talend to handle complex transformations, data parsing, and external system integrations.
• Microsoft Access (Rules Management UI): Support and enhance a rules-driven UI in Microsoft Access, allowing users to manage transformation and reporting logic without deep technical involvement.
• Scripting (Shell & PowerShell): Automate data movement, task scheduling, and job orchestration using PowerShell and shell scripting.
• API Integration (REST/SOAP): Integrate with external systems and services using REST and SOAP APIs for data enrichment, validation, and interaction.
• Error Handling & Monitoring: Implement and maintain error handling, logging, and job monitoring to ensure process transparency, reliability, and data integrity within Talend jobs.
• CI/CD with Azure DevOps Pipelines: Use Azure DevOps Pipelines for deployment, monitoring, and management of Talend jobs, adhering to CI/CD best practices and version control standards.
• Knowledge of Containers (e.g., Azure container): Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker or Azure container.
• Agile Development: Actively participate in Agile development processes, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and code reviews to foster collaboration and continuous improvement
• Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with other teams, data consumers, and developers to define reporting requirements and deliver accurate, reliable data solutions in a timely manner
• Adaptability and Flexibility: Data engineers often encounter changing requirements, tight deadlines, and evolving technologies. Being adaptable, flexible, and able to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and frameworks is crucial.
• Knowledge of Security Best Practices: Strong understanding of secure coding practices and the ability to apply them effectively in software development. Ability to implement security controls, conduct code reviews, and perform security-focused testing, ensuring adherence to industry standards and minimizing the risk of potential exploits.
• Compliance: Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements and industry-specific security standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001. Ability to design and implement software solutions that meet these compliance standards, ensuring the protection of sensitive data and maintaining regulatory compliance.
