The Role
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Communications Manager to help tell our brand story. Based in our regional office in Japan, you will be responsible for developing and executing communications initiatives that strengthen brand reputation, engage key audiences, and support business objectives locally.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content including PR plans, presentations, press materials, media pitches, and social media assets.
  • Amplify analysts' research across earned media and owned channels to drive visibility and engagement.
  • Draft and edit executive communications, including talking points, and Q&As for senior leaders.
  • Manage inbound media enquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Proactively identify compelling media angles and pitch stories to increase the visibility of analysts' research and thought leadership.
  • Plan and execute communications strategies for corporate and media events, from building tailored media lists and managing invitations to coordinating attendance and facilitating interviews or briefings.
  • Monitor and analyze earned media coverage and communications campaign performance.
  • Stay on top of market and industry trends to identify reputational risks and provide strategic counsel on proactive responses.
  • Identify speaking engagements or corporate visibility opportunities at industry conferences or related events to enhance Morningstar's external profile.
  • Regularly connect with internal regional teams, particularly APAC, to adapt information into messaging relevant to the Japanese market and media.

Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification with five to ten years' experience in PR and communications.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear messages and storylines.
  • Strategic thinker with a creative, non-traditional approach to developing and executing PR campaigns and initiatives.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, results-oriented mindset with strong networking and communication skills.
  • Strong cross-functional collaborative skills spanning regional communications colleagues, digital, editorial, and marketing teams.
  • A passion for Morningstar's mission of creating great products that help investors reach their financial goals. Personal interest in or affinity for investing is required, and experience in financial services communications strongly preferred.
  • Fluent English proficiency (written and spoken) is essential.

Please submit a cover letter and 2-3 English or Japanese writing samples in addition to your resume. Submissions without writing samples will not be considered.
Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to work remotely and collaborate in-person each week. We've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis, at least three days each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you'll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
