Job Description

Purpose:

The Compliance Coordinator will be part of a Global Onsite Team supporting one of Expeditors High Tech customers within an import/export operation.

The Compliance Coordinator will be accountable to meet all major duties and responsibilities outlined below in a timely and responsive manner, as directed by the Onsite Customs Manager.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Manages customs compliance requests via customer's proprietary ticketing system.
  • Ensure smooth and timely export/import process flow.
  • Advise customers on import and export restrictions and customs related matters within parameters outlined.
  • Always ensure compliance to regulations. This includes internal policies and procedures such as Standard Work Instructions (SWI), external government regulations and customer policies / requirements.
  • Commercial Invoice, shipping documents review and approval.
  • Assist with internal audits /post entry reviews and coordinate the resolution of the open actions with relevant teams.
  • Assist & coordinate with the broker on customs declaration correction.
  • Maintain and further regional matter expertise within parameters outlined.
  • Actively engaged in advanced planning deployments.
  • Responsible for daily tracking of operational metrics.
  • Attention to detail and elevates matters with a sense of urgency for timely resolution.
  • Requires good communication skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Provides ongoing status updates to the local management.
  • Identifies gaps and improvement opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Provides information and recommendations to improve operational processes.
  • Respond to customer’s requests timely.
  • Support the execution of projects and drive and execute assigned individually owned projects.
  • Support the implementation of new business initiatives and their smooth transition between the Compliance Teams involved.
  • Own the documentation and tracking of project issues, action items and send follow-up as necessary to ensure project activities are completed.

Personal Development:

  • Meets company standards of 52 hours training per year per employee.
  • Attend training classes when required.
  • Complete mandatory training when required.

Reporting Structure:

●      Onsite Compliance Supervisor / Onsite Compliance Manager

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university,
  • 1-3 years related experience in import or export operations preferred
  • Fluent in Malay; Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of air, road and ocean transport.
  • Good knowledge of incoterms
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including proven abilities to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results.
  • Proactive, strong organizational skills
  • Risk sensitive, recognizes when problems arise or are likely to arise.
  • Customs Brokerage License preferred
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, email and various PC based software
