About the Role:

Develop, underwrite, and manage Property & Casualty treaty business in the assigned territories, but primarily Oceania, to optimize profitable growth, contributing to overall portfolio diversification in the APAC region and comply with Group guidelines and risk appetite.

Key Accountabilities:
Development

  • Cultivate and maintain high level of commercial relationships through regular networking to identify needs and resulting opportunities.

  • Formulate market specific and client specific strategies to foster close broker engagement, empathetic cedant relationship and facilitate the generation of business from opportunities.

  • Collaborate with underwriters of other lines of business to grow their portfolios.

Underwriting

  • Prepare business strategy to align with Group objectives and risk appetite.

  • Execute the approved business plan and adapt to changing operating conditions.

  • Work with pricing actuaries and modelers to ensure submissions are diligently and robustly analyzed, assessing technical, market, economic and legal risks and ensure compliance to Group’s underwriting procedures and guidelines.

  • Make sound technical underwriting decisions while retaining focus on optimizing the overall portfolio profitability, mix and balance.

  • Ensure referrals are properly documented and sign-offs obtained timely in compliance with the Group underwriting requirements.

  • Follow Group underwriting administrative procedures.

Management

  • Prepare renewal reports to monitor execution of business plan.

  • Perform regular reviews to monitor performance of the portfolio and propose remedial actions where required.

  • Ensure strict adherence to the Group risk management procedures, including Nat Cat accumulation control and Single Risk exposure, and make timely reports to senior management when the respective trigger levels are reached.

  • Collaborate pro-actively with internal partners such as treaty operations, technical accounts, claims handling, loss reserving, legal and compliance to ensure a high level of client services.

  • Keep abreast of market developments and key players’ developments in order to contribute to market analysis, research on competitors and other ad hoc studies requested by senior management.

  • To Vice President & Head of Oceania

  • Mentor, coach, guide team members and provide knowledge transfer within team and across Group.

  • Proactively identify continuous improvement opportunities to drive productivity and process efficiency.
