Senior Employment Counsel – Asia Pacific & Japan

As a specialist Employment Lawyer you will have the chance to influence the colleague experience and support a culture where colleagues live our values, do the right thing, and position us to become one of the World’s Most Admired Companies.

You will join a global employment law team in our Culture & Counsel Platform. You will handle employment law matters in the APJ region, with support from our regional Employment Law leadership team.

What will you do?

In this position, you will provide counsel on Employment law and ER risk management across various company locations. You will primarily focus on the APJ region but will operate with agility across any jurisdiction, bringing to bear external legal support when required.

The role will be an essential member of our Culture Enablement and Risk Management Centres of Expertise. This is a collaborative distributed team of Employment lawyers, Employee Relations, and HR Compliance specialists that work together to uphold a culture of compliance, trust, and transparency.

The scope of this work will include:

**Risk Prevention and Management:** Individual executive and employee termination cases; oversight and Employment law support to complex compliance investigations, employment litigation management and reporting; advice and counsel to our HR and ER CoE partners.

**Transformation & Growth Projects:** Legal review and strategic support of regional business growth and restructure projects; integration of newly acquired businesses; support to legal entity rationalization projects.

**Improve Employment law service delivery** with scalable digital solutions, efficient access to legal support, and knowledge management. Provide legal support to HR Compliance function and review harmonization initiatives. Draft and revise employment-related agreements, policies, and advise on regional deployment of new tools or systems.

Who we are looking for: experience, skills & abilities

  • **Educational Background:** equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.

  • **Experience:**

  • Qualified lawyer with significant experience in employment law advisory work in their 'home' jurisdiction and, ideally, across the APJ region. Proven success operating within a multinational corporation will be an advantage. Must be comfortable with offering perspective on ethical issues beyond the bare application of the law.

  • **Skills:** Remarkable analytical, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to learn and operate with agility across new jurisdictions.

  • Track record of influencing and providing consultative mentorship to senior management around complex organizational issues.

  • Applicant must be a proactive contributor and collaborative team member, practical, outcome-focused, and capable of effectively partnering with diverse teams to offer innovative solutions.

  • Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours are required to connect with colleagues in EMEA & the US and complete projects on time.

  • Strong English communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Other languages a plus.
