OceanX Education is on a mission to inspire and nurture the next generation of passionate ocean leaders to protect, preserve and harness our oceans for social and environmental impact. With global reach, we offer young people insights into the importance of ocean conservation, research, and storytelling through hands-on experience and behind-the-scenes opportunities.


Position Summary:

OceanX Education seeks an extraordinary leader to serve as its Executive Director.  Reporting into the OceanX Education founder and CEO, and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Build upon the work to date to design and rollout the organization’s strategy, including further articulating its impact and impact KPIs;
  • Oversee, direct and help implement the programs that incorporate science, engineering, media, art, and cutting-edge technology, including virtual and alternative reality technologies;
  • Drive organizational financial sustainability and scalability by forging partnerships with leading organizations across the globe, including  philanthropic, governmental and private partners;
  • Develop and implement a communication and media strategy for OceanX Education;
  • Work with OceanX Education’s initial board of directors to expand the board;
  • Manage a small but rapidly growing staff in multiple global locations;
  • Forge key relationships with OceanX Education’s sister organization, OceanX, including its co-CEOs, as well as with the Dalio Family Office, which is providing back-office supports for OceanX Education in these formative years;
  • Ensure that strong operational and financial processes are in place, working with the OceanX COO and with the operational teams at OceanX and the Dalio Family Office;
  • Help to create the next generation of ocean leaders who will help us to better understand our world’s largest and most unknown resource and solve some of the most pressing climate issues of our time.


Position Location:

The position will be based in Singapore and require significant travel to New York amongst other locations. The Executive Director must be comfortable working flexible hours(for meetings with stakeholders in global locations).  This position will require significant travel, as well as perhaps several months spent each year in the organization’s Singapore office, and the surrounding region.   

The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:

  • At least 15+ years of experience in businesses or nonprofits centered around ocean, climate and/or environmental science, with some experience in the education field preferred;
  • Passionate leader with strategic vision for opportunities in ocean education, broadly defined;
  • Strong track record of building and running organizations, with excellent leadership and management skills;
  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships and fundraising, with a preference for a track record of having done so in the United States and Asia;
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the dynamic atmosphere of a start-up organization;
  • Ability to navigate multiple organizations and stakeholders, with excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • A track record of building high performing boards; and
  • A business orientation with the ability to run a rapidly paced organization with financial and operational acumen.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation for the role includes a competitive salary (inclusive of a merit-based bonus, dependent on years of experience, level of education obtained, as well as applicable skillset) and an excellent benefits package, including a comprehensive employer paid medical plan and CPF.
