About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.

Our Communications team includes PR/media relations, employee communications, events, social media, community, influencer relations, and other external-facing functions. We help people understand our technology, values, and approach to safely building powerful AI. Our ethos is to communicate clearly, authentically, and with purpose, always in support of our mission.

About the Role

ChatGPT is an incredibly useful tool, but for many it can still feel like a black box missing an instruction manual. It’s the OpenAI community team’s role to craft concrete guidance and stories of how to use ChatGPT, and our other emergent technologies, to share with our millions of users around the world. We do this by learning from real users, then distributing their stories and use cases across channels, including on our social media, webpages, product launches, press. (We even made a book for college students!)

We’re looking for a community lead in APAC, our team’s first full-time international hire, who can help us bring this motion of building with power users to our key cohorts across Asia, starting with college-aged students. Once the student effort is in motion, we’ll ask you to start to build a team that can understand and support more of our top user cohorts across Asia and the Pacific.

This role is based in Singapore. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Forge our engagement with students. Building off of the success of our US/Canada and India ChatGPT Labs for Students, we’ll ask you to lead our effort to bring student labs to countries like Korea, Japan, India, Philippines, and Indonesia. Gather a cohort of special students together to identify stories and use cases of ChatGPT, then work with other teams to share them widely.

  • Curate & edit use cases. Identify and package up standout use cases and stories from APAC for our team to turn into assets like webpages, social media posts, and more. Train new hires to do the same. You’ll have support from our social, editorial, and design teams.

  • Collaborate with Media PR, social, product, and marketing. Create strong relationships and shared strategies with other teams at OpenAI to ensure our community members’ use cases, stories, and insights are both shared with the public and metabolized internally.

  • Expand and lead the APAC community team. Hire both contractors and future team leads across the APAC region. Manage those team members day to day, ensuring their strategies connect to the community team’s strategy and OpenAI’s biggest priorities.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have led community-focused user programs in APAC markets for a fast-growing company. Especially programs that surfaced stories, insights, or use cases from diverse groups like students, creators, artists, or specialists — ideally across multiple countries.

  • Have built and scaled programs from zero to one in ambiguous environments, including recruiting and onboarding local partners or contractors, launching pilots, and refining based on user feedback.

  • Have curated and shaped written and visual content for audiences in the millions — e.g., editorial, social, case studies, user stories, or learning guides — and can connect raw user insights to compelling public-facing assets that resonate across cultures. Note: we have social, events, and design teams to help with production.

  • Have partnered cross-functionally with teams like media PR, social, marketing or product to amplify community voices, align goals, and ensure insights inform broader company strategy and launches.

  • Are comfortable operating across cultures and languages, able to build trusted relationships and separate signal from noise even in markets where you don’t speak the language by working through local partners, translators, and advisors.

  • Have directly managed and developed people, including contractors or distributed teams, and thrive in setting shared goals, providing clear feedback, and coaching others.
