The way EII is structured provides ample opportunity to make a tangible impact on the day-to-day and future direction of the department, and personally play a critical role in the growing actuarial function and its capabilities across modelling, MI and business partnering of this cross-platform unit.

Role Purpose:

A key member of the APAC actuarial function, you will be required to help support and drive forward BAU, including owning key aspects of the quarterly reserving and capital processes, and supporting reporting of results to Group and MAS for regulatory purposes. You will work closely with the local Finance team and other stakeholders, including Claims, Underwriting and Pricing.

In addition to supporting local capabilities, you will support and collaborate with the wider EII team on project initiatives, including enhancements to reserving and capital processes, set-up to support expansion in products/territories, streamlining regulatory reporting and build-out of MI to support reserving results.

The role is broad with exposure to a wide range of business stakeholders and other actuarial functions, project development and quarter/off-quarter activities. The successful candidate will work with autonomy in a supportive and encouraging environment. Key Accountabilities:

  • Quarterly review of reserves in respect of business written across the International platforms.

  • Support setting of key actuarial assumptions and methods for both GAAP and IFRS17 purposes.

  • Support reporting of results to key stakeholders, Group and regulators.

  • Support quarterly calculation and reporting of capital requirements, and projection of future capital requirements.

  • Contribute to reserving and capital discussions with underwriting, pricing, claims, finance, and reinsurance to improve underwriting results. Timely delivery and communication of results.

  • Contribute to actuarial analysis which supports the business planning process and communicate the results to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Work with pricing actuaries, claims and underwriters for sharing information and to get buy-in on reserving assumptions used.

  • Support external review of assumptions and results by certifying actuary and auditors.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate and support the actuarial function in continually enhancing and developing the reserving processes across the International platforms.

  • Develop tools and outputs to leverage reserving data to improve underwriting performance and deliver insights and valuable MI to key stakeholders and senior management.

Professional Experience:

  • Committed to undertaking and working towards actuarial qualification.

  • General Insurance reserving experience/understanding.

  • Proven ability of working independently and collaborating with others.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Maths, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business, or a similar field.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent IT skills – MS Office, SQL, Power BI and ResQ.

  • Proven technical and model building experience.

  • Excellent organisational skills and a strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to simply communicate modelling process and results with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and through reports or presentations.

  • A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work with an appetite to learn and develop.
