Intro
The Assistant Manager, Accounting, is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. This role will be worked closely with business stakeholders and senior management, while developing the leadership and technical capabilities required to progress into a manager position.
Some of the things you’ll be doing:
· Manage an assigned client portfolio and oversee the end-to-end financial close process, ensuring the timely preparation, review, and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
· Review and ensure the management accounts and financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Companies Act, Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS), and other applicable regulatory requirement
· Prepare and review group consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
· Prepare and review Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulatory returns, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission in compliance with MAS regulations and reporting requirements. Monitor changes in regulatory requirements, assess their impact on reporting obligations, and implement necessary updates to maintain ongoing compliance.
· Establish, implement and maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to support effective financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
· Continuously assess the effectiveness of existing processes and controls, identifying opportunities for improvement, and lead process enhancement initiatives to strengthen operational effectively, accuracy and risk management.
· Review and approve accounting transactions within delegated authority limits, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
· Ensure the timely resolution of accounting issues, client queries and operational matters, escalating significant issues as appropriate
· Drive continuous improvement and standardization of accounting processes to enhance service quality, productivity and compliance
· Coordinate and support external and internal audit engagement, implement and monitor internal control measures and ensure compliance with governance, regulatory and company policy requirements
· Identify control gaps, assess risk and implement corrective and preventative actions to strengthen the overall control environment.
· Lead, coach and mentor accounting team members through effective coaching, technical guidance, and professional development initiatives. Review and approve accounting work to ensure high-quality deliverables and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, acting as a trusted business partner and key point of contact. Identify opportunities to expand service offerings, support proposals and client presentations, and contribute to business growth and revenue objectives.
· Collaborate closely with Business Development and operational stakeholders to support strategic growth initiatives, enhance client service offerings, and identify new business opportunities.
· Conduct and facilitate technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions to strengthen the team’s accounting, regulatory and financial reporting capabilities and support continuous learning
· Assist with the onboarding of new clients, including conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) due diligence, evaluating the scope of services to be provided, and performing periodic client reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory and internal requirements
· Undertake special assignments, projects, and other ad hoc duties as assigned.
What technical skills, experience, and qualifications do you need?
Required level and content of education:
· Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline.
· Professional accounting qualification such as Singapore CA, ACCA, CPA Australia, ICAEW, or equivalent is preferred.
· Chartered Accountant designation or equivalent professional certification would be an advantage.
Business experience required:
· Minimum 5 to 8 years of relevant accounting, financial reporting, or client accounting services experience, preferably within an accounting firm, corporate services provider, shared services environment, or professional services firm.
· Experience managing a portfolio of clients and handling full sets of accounts across multiple entities.
· Hands-on experience in the preparation and review of management accounts, statutory financial statements, and group consolidated financial statements.
· Experience in regulatory reporting, including the preparation and review of MAS returns, would be advantageous.
· Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing team members.
· Experience managing external audits, implementing internal controls, and driving process improvement initiatives.
· Exposure to business development activities, client relationship management, and proposal preparation would be an added advantage.
Language skills/other skills required:
· Fluent in English and Chinese
·Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
. Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP platforms, such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Xero, SAP Accpac, or similar applications.
. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
