The accountant is involved in most, if not all, aspects of accounting and oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting team. He/she ensures that the organisation's finance function is well organised as well as produces timely and accurate financial statements and management accounts, thus achieving compliance with corporate policies and statutory requirements.

He/she also analyses data and understands the financial performance and position of the organisation in order to develop suitable accounting policies to meet reporting requirements and to produce any special reports required by the management team.

The accountant works with a team of finance and accounting specialists and works closely with the internal and external auditors, bankers, and regulators. He/she must keep current with changing statutory requirements and tax laws and determine the implications of such changes to financial reporting. He/she may also work with the leadership team to help define the organisation’s overall finance strategy.

What will you do?

1. Support the finance team in financial accounting and corporate reporting

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, supporting schedules and relevant reports for monthly/quarterly management reporting
  • Perform useful financial variance analysis to facilitate decision making for monthly management/quarterly reporting
  • Maintain accurate journal entries and allocations
  • Reconcile accounts and provide analysis for the organisation’s financial transactions
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and disclosure notes

2. Support strategic planning initiatives

  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Monitor monthly revenue/costs against revenue targets/budget and perform useful variance analysis

3. Support working capital management

  • Prepare monthly cashflow forecasts to help the organisation determine working capital needs and funding strategies
  • Managing accounts payable and receivables (billing)
  • Liaise with banks and prepare relevant documents for drawdown of bank facilities
  • Calculate the cost of different types of capital financial instruments and the overall costs of capital for the organisation
  • Provide data in relation to assets, capital rationing and cost of capital

4. Support statutory compliance activities including internal/external audits and tax filing

  • Support the annual financial audit process
  • Respond to internal and external auditors on audit data, variances and audit findings
  • Implement policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls to prevent possible fraud and errors
  • Resolve issues and deficiencies arising from audit findings
  • Prepare tax computation for tax filing and quarterly GST filing

5. Process business transactions and reports using information technology tools

  • Operate accounting information systems efficiently and effectively
  • Extract data, generate reports and provide useful analysis for management using relevant accounting information systems or software
  • Prepare financial statements, business activity reports and forecasts for management and external stakeholders

Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or relevant qualification e.g. ACCA or CA, CPA etc.
  • Minimum 3-4 years and above relevant working experience in accounting and/or auditing, preferably at least 2 years accounting experience in commercial setting.
  • At least 2 years accounting experience in preparing full set of accounts preferred
  • Accounting/Auditing experience in IT industry/ software development company is a plus
  • Advanced MS Excel skills to be able to generate useful financial reports and charts for analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with general ledger functions
  • Familiar with project/contract revenue accounting and percentage of completion method
  • Hands-on experience with MYOB and Fact software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills. Able to manage and prioritise multiple tasks at hand effectively.
  • Good written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
