Accountant

As a Maker Lab Accountant, you’ll work closely with our Finance and Business Operations teams to manage transactional accounting, invoicing, and third-party passthrough support for our entities in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom.

You’re a great communicator, meticulous, results-driven, motivated and entrepreneurial with a ‘hands-on’ attitude and a strong sense of urgency. 

Role:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting transactions within the accounting system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards. Perform monthly closings, including accounts receivable and revenue functions.
  • Oversee the preparation and processing of invoices, including tracking payments and reconciling accounts. Provide support for month-end and year-end closing activities, including consolidation of entities’ accounts, reconciliations, and reporting. Reconcile discrepancies arising between the system and finance records, proactively seeking solutions to identify and minimize the differences.
  • Support third-party passthrough processes, ensuring smooth coordination and accurate financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of improved accounting processes and controls.
  • Help in the preparation of monthly financial and management reporting packages, as well as monthly cashflow forecasts.
  • Prepare and provide accounting schedules and GST returns.
  • Support auditing and prepare financial statements. Communicate with various stakeholders for new initiatives and process improvement.
  • Perform other related ad-hoc duties as assigned.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations concerning accounting, implementing best practices to ensure compliance.

You:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or ACCA, CA or its equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of working experience in accounting-related fields, Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred but not a must
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well with people across different cultures and markets.
  • A team player with good organisational skills.
  • Solid accounting knowledge as well as local tax/audit regulation.
  • Hands-on/relevant working experience in a finance operating environment.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, and experience working with finance system Xero preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and discrepancies.
  • Exceptional verbal and written English communication and presentation skills and - ideally - fluent in another Asian language to cover projects across APAC.
