MetaOptics, a semiconductor optics company, has set up a U.S. subsidiary, MetaOptics Inc., to support collaboration in semiconductor manufacturing, integrated photonics and nanophotonics.

According to a news release, MetaOptics Inc. will focus on delivering metaoptics technologies across North America, including for 5G devices, data communications, data centers and fiber-optic networks.

In parallel, MetaOptics is working with a U.S. university on a tunable metalens project focused on development of optical devices that can be adjusted post-fabrication. The initiative aims to explore reconfigurable systems for imaging, sensing and augmented reality and virtual reality applications.

The company is also engaging several technology firms in the U.S. to explore collaborations in data communications, advanced sensors and smart devices.
