As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Japan Payments Technology team, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will be responsible for implementing and supporting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions to support the firm's business objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Execute standard software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting in accordance with roles and responsibilities in JPMorgan Chase Technology teams.
- Lead and support the roll-out and ongoing maintenance of complex application systems comprised of both bespoke and off-the-shelf application software from various vendors. This includes collaboration with vendors and in-house infrastructure teams, and may require work during off-business hours to set up and/or troubleshoot even network connectivity, firewalls, operating systems, web/application servers, databases, and other middleware.
- Create secure and high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while ensuring design constraints are met by software code development.
- Gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets to continuously improve software applications and systems.
- Proactively lead application governance and controls, identifying hidden problems and patterns in data to drive improvements in application/platform hygiene and system architecture.
- Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies.
- Participate in external/regulatory inspections and internal audits.
- Negotiate and collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including CTB team, RTB team, Business, Functional Partners, Governance, and Management.
- Foster a team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Formal training or certification on web application development concepts and 3+ years applied experience.
- Advanced proficiency in frontend development using Angular and/or React, and intermediate proficiency in backend development using Spring Boot. Proficiency in build and CI/CD tools such as Maven, Gradle, Git, GitHub, Bitbucket, and Jenkins is also required. Intermediate proficiency in shell scripting on Linux and Java daemon/command-line application development is expected.
- Experience with applications developed and supported using most or all of the following: Apache HTTP Server/Tomcat, IBM MQ/WebSphere Application Server, Oracle Database.
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Proficient in coding in one or more languages.
- Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
- Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, as well as skillset to manage and execute small project SDLC independently. Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
- Demonstrated knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
- Native-level written and verbal communication in Japanese, as the successful candidate will be managing external/internal stakeholders in the Japan market, such as regulators and clearing houses). Strong proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is also required, as the candidate will work with global teams where English is the predominant working language.
- Strong experience in financial services, with a sound understanding of Transaction Banking and/or related businesses. Ability to create and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the firm - locally, regionally, and globally.
- Strong experience in location governance/application governance, such as risk, control, and vulnerability management, as well as support for internal and external audits.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Strong collaborator with the ability to foster relationships effectively with diverse groups across geographies.
- Good knowledge and experience of the Japan Transaction Banking market and core infrastructure (Zengin - Core Time & More Time/BOJ Clearing/FXYCS/Togo ATM/ANSER/eBAgent/Swift MT/ISO20022, etc.).
- Experience with various cloud technologies and platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, and AWS.
- Familiarity with legacy application frameworks and libraries such as Struts and jQuery.
- Strong understanding of overall technology - both hardware/software, database, Linux, Windows, virtualization, cloud, network concepts, NoSQL databases such as Apache Cassandra or Amazon DynamoDB, Apache Kafka, Apache Struts, Angular, React, development in C/C++, Node, and Python.
- Confident and organized with strong reasoning and influencing skills.
- Self-starter with initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with the team. Good interpersonal skills and stakeholder management expertise. Adaptable and able to multi-task.
