WunderGraph is a fast-growing startup, our goal is to help developers design and deliver better APIs, collaboratively. From interface design to API implementation, we provide the platform to go from sketch to product in a category-defining collaborative experience. Our North Star is to take the friction out of bringing digital ideas to life, making room for your ideas and productivity. If you want to make an impact, have your voice heard, and work in a no-BS organization where you can get stuff done, look no further and apply today! 🚀

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Design Engineer, someone who lives at the intersection of design and engineering, and thrives on translating ideas into code.

As our first Design Engineer at WunderGraph, you are fluent in both interface design and front-end development. You can sketch or prototype in Figma, and then bring that same idea to life in React and TypeScript. You care deeply about design quality and UI performance, after all, we are building developer tooling.

You’ll collaborate across design, product, and engineering to define how WunderGraph looks, feels, and works. You’ll contribute to design systems, explore new interaction patterns directly in code, and ensure that everything we ship, from the company site to the product, feels cohesive and crafted.

This role is ideal for someone that wants to have immense ownership over how we build developer tooling internally, and how we present ourselves to the world. You’re curious and pragmatic, you understand that great user experience comes from tight feedback loops between design and implementation.

TEAM INTEGRATION

  • Reports to CTO, is part of the Engineering team

  • Aligns closely with the CEO (Product) and CCO (customer experience and business impact)

  • Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, marketing, product, and customer success

  • Acts as a design mentor and thought partner within the team

ROLE OBJECTIVES

You are successful if you:

  • Lead the end-to-end design-engineering process for web and product experiences, from discovery to delivery.

  • Drive a consistent, scalable, and technically feasible design system across product and marketing.

  • Translate customer needs and business goals into user-centric solutions that can be built and maintained at scale.

  • Champion accessibility, usability, performance, and responsive design best practices.

  • Mentor teammates on design and front-end best practices.

  • Strengthen WunderGraph’s product and brand identity through thoughtful, technically sound design execution.

  • Influence product strategy by connecting design decisions with engineering and business outcomes.

  • Shape WunderGraph’s brand and product experience through thoughtful, technically sound design decisions.

ROLE TASKS

Product & Design Engineering

  • Design and prototype user flows, interfaces, and interactions with scalability in mind.

  • Contribute to implementation by working closely with engineers (and coding where appropriate).

  • Define and evolve our design system and component library, ensuring technical maintainability.

  • Conduct and oversee user research, usability testing, and competitor analysis.

  • Introduce advanced prototyping, interaction design, and performance-focused practices.

Web & Brand Experience

  • Own the design and technical evolution of WunderGraph’s web presence.

  • Deliver assets that blend design and code: landing pages, visuals, campaign graphics, and interactive components.

  • Shape and maintain a cohesive style guide, balancing design innovation with engineering consistency.

  • Support brand storytelling with technically feasible motion graphics and interactive elements.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Set best practices for design-to-engineering workflows, documentation, and handoff.

  • Mentor and support teammates in both design and front-end implementation.

  • Act as a design/engineering advocate across the organization.

  • Represent the team in cross-functional workshops and external thought leadership.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Senior-level experience in Design Engineering, Product, or UX/UI Design with a strong portfolio of projects.

  • Proficiency in Figma, prototyping tools, or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Working knowledge of front-end technologies (such as HTML/CSS, React/Typescript, Javascript etc).

  • Strong background in UX research, accessibility, responsive design, and performance optimization.

  • Experience contributing to or leading design systems and component libraries.

  • Ability to bridge design and engineering with hands-on contributions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English.

  • Self-starter, capable of leading initiatives independently.

  • Comfortable working 100% remotely in a distributed team.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for team retreats and workshops.
