Job Description

You will join us as a Rotational Analyst into our Fundamental Investments Program. Rotational Analysts complete two, 12-month rotations within APAC Credit. Rotations are based on business needs and consider your background and preferences.

Credit Investments makes direct investments in investment grade and sub-investment grade corporate, structured and real estate debt through a variety of instruments including high yield bonds, convertible bonds, leveraged loans, mezzanine debt & distressed debt. The group is focused on event driven opportunities such as acquisitions, re-financings, recapitalizations, restructurings and stressed situations. The group typically looks to invest in single names where they can deploy $50 - $1000m. At March 31, 2024, CPPIB’s Credit Investments department had a portfolio that totaled C$67.7 billion with a variety of investments across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. We expect the portfolio to grow significantly over the next five years, especially in the Asia Pacific region.

As a Rotational Analyst you will join a Program that goes beyond technical components to include formal training, apprenticeship, mentoring and meaningful performance management. You will join CPP Investments’ LAUNCH and Wall Street Prep Program as new graduates which is designed to help you learn about different investment strategies, technical requirements and thought process needed to become a sound investor. You will be encouraged to ask questions, be engaged and pursue both formal and informal learning opportunities.

You will quickly advance your knowledge and expertise through skills-based training and stimulating on-the-job assignments working in a high performing and collaborative environment with colleagues who are leading experts in their field.

What you will do

  • Analyze and evaluate a variety of industries, companies, and venture capital funds, and securities including the analysis of management teams
  • Perform valuation analysis of companies, assets and/or securities
  • Perform due diligence on venture capital funds, assets and/or companies including financial performance, quality of management team, expected merits and risks, market and industry dynamics, and expected returns
  • Build financial models to analyze investment opportunities
  • Assist in the investment decision-making process; provides support and input into the making and managing of investments around the world
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry/market overviews, writing investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Explore investment opportunities in geographic markets including the Americas, Europe, and/or Asia
  • Apply statistical and qualitative analysis to support investment decisions
  • Research, analyze and report on macro level trends
  • Interview external management teams, industry experts and other venture capital fund investors

Who We’re Looking for

Candidates in an undergraduate or advanced degree program that are able to start work in September 2025 are eligible to apply. We look for candidates with a strong track record of academic success while balancing extracurricular activities, a strong skill-set in interpersonal and relationship building skills, financial modeling, valuation and analytics, as well as good communication (preference to Japanese, Korean or Hindi speaking students). In addition, the most successful candidates often combine energy, enthusiasm, and intellectual curiosity, with demonstrated interest in investing.
